Through different campaigns it can credibly inform the public about such conditions and also on the deep-rooted causes of problems.

A better outlook for young people in the country

Living in the country or surviving in the city ? In the countries of the South over 400 million young people live in the countryside. Many of them dream of a better life in the city. Hope of finding a job attracts young people to the city. But their dreams of a better life rarely come true. Most of them are being pushed to the fringes of society, exploited or abused. They remain in the city without being able to return to their villages for lack of money to pay the fare or for the shame of a so-called personal failure. As a consequence these young people – who are the hope for the future of their country – flock to the poor neighbourhoods of the cities without any possibility to finish school or get professional training. You are these young people’s only hope ! Terre des Hommes Switzerland is supporting projects in rural areas in Latin America, Africa and Asia in order to stop the exodus from the countryside and to offer an alternative to the young people of the Southern countries. We encourage scolarisation, provide training, stimulate the teaching of envrironmentally respectful agriculture and help young people to take charge of their own existence. You can contribute to this important program with a donation or a sponsorship to the Fonds projets jeunesse. As a sponsor you will receive an annual report on the progress that has been made but most importantly you will allow many young people to make their dreams of a better future come true!
