Exhibition “Trabalho Infantil” on child labour in Brazil
“I was born and grew up in the Sertão with the sun's rays beating down on my shoulders. The vision of lost children, perhaps artists and geniuses, deprived of life in their innocence by each day of labour without end. I have never succeeded in erasing that sadness from my eyes, experienced while so young. Adult, I decided to photograph it all.”
Sergio Pedreira is a Brazilian Photographer who, in 1998, received the International Photojournalism Award from The International Catholic Union of the Press. His objective is clear – to let the world know about child labour in the North East of Brazil so that the situation may change.
Pedreira's “Trabalho Infantil” exhibition is available on loan. It treats the painful problem of the exploitation of children working in the orange orchards, in the sisal fields and in the quarries of Brazil.
