Terre des Hommes and fair trade
To be committed to Children’s Rights necessarily implies promoting fairer economic and financial relations between the North and the South. This way parents are assured of a decent revenue which permits them to provide their children with the basic necessities of life.
This is the reason why for many years, along with other NGOs, we have been selling craftwork from the South in the “La Calebasse” shop in Carouge (Geneva). Sales are also organised through stalls at various events, and through the important network of World Shops (Magasins du Monde) in French-speaking Switzerland.
Our support to fair trade also takes the form of grants awarded to an agricultural cooperative in Peru, which is developing the production of organic coffee, and Max Havelaar.
Fair Trade should be better known, especially by young people. This is why we organise various photo exhibitions available for schools and colleges in the Geneva region.
