Clothes Banks – practical for you, useful for others

Textiles constitute 5% of household waste in Geneva – about 4000 tons – of which only a third is actually recuperated.

Terre des Hommes Suisse is one of the founders of the Coordination Group of Relief Organisations for the recuperation of used clothes, textiles, and footwear. Started in 1994, the Coordination Group has a network of more than 160 Clothes Banks at 37 locations throughout Geneva.

The aim is to reduce the cost of waste elimination for the public utility services, protect the environment, recuperate used clothing, finance the activities of relief organisations in favour of the destitute and create employment for people in difficulty.
